We are pleased to report the following update from the Metro North Community Garden on Basswood Street, just north of Downtown.

The Nutritional Garden features kids from "All About Kids Pre-school" and residents from the neighborhood who grow food for their families. They have kids ranging in age from 3 years to 4 years who are participating in the planting, growing and harvesting of the vegetables grown in the garden. They have grown lettuce, Swiss chard, and Kale as well as parsley, spinach, carrots, beets, dill, peppermint, strawberries and tomatoes.  They have also are grown collard, turnip, and mustard greens. Their potatoes and brussel sprouts are almost ready for harvesting! Last year they harvested 80lbs of sweet potatoes, 26lbs of cucumbers and 22lbs of squash. The produce is used in salads for the children who have participated in the growing and harvesting of the food.
