Is your compost certified?

A school garden makes for a perfect connection to teach nutrition, health and sustainability, but what are the regulations about using compost at a school garden?

Well, at least here in Florida, compost used within a school setting has to be from a certified source.
That means it has gone through some strict guidelines to ensure its safety; i.e. it has been tested for microbes, tested at various places in the cycle, etc.

You can also check for the certification label on the bag.
This is important when applying for grants as you can read under the Funding Guidelines in Florida Agriculture in the Classroom's site.

Make sure you are being safe and always double check if any products you might be using in a school setting is okay.
