Volunteers Needed for Florida Native Plant Society's 33rd Annual Conference


 Florida Native Plant Society is asking you  for your volunteer help at the Florida Native Plant Society’s 33rd annual conference.  This is the first time it has been held in Jacksonville, and they hope many of you will sign up to volunteer!  Please respond no later than April 25 to Janet Allen, volunteer coordinator: Janet.allen1007@att.net  You can certainly sign up to volunteer after this date, but this is your early opportunity to respond.
Conference location is the University of North Florida, University Center, 12000 Alumni Drive, Jacksonville, 32224. Volunteers are needed Thursday, May 16 through Saturday, May 18. It is requested that you volunteer a minimum of three to four hours.  Some areas may need volunteers for shorter periods.  If that is the case, please volunteer for multiple tasks to insure you meet the minimum.  They have many, many volunteer needs, and your help is essential.  
 In recognition of your volunteer help, you will receive benefits.  If you volunteer in the morning, you may attend the conference speaker sessions for no charge in the afternoon.  If you volunteer in the afternoon, you may attend the conference speaker sessions that morning at no charge.  During your free conference attendance you may attend any session you choose; however you may not attend fee based workshops, for example Nature Journaling.  Volunteers that assist with field trips on Thursday may attend a half day of conference speaker sessions of their choice on Friday or Saturday.

Following are the volunteer opportunities.  Please volunteer now for a specific category by sending your name, email and phone number (also include your availability/time/date) to Janet Allen.  Janet will assist you with information about the conference areas requiring volunteers, the person you report to in that area, the length of time needed for your shift and all requirements. 
On-Site Registration
Volunteers are needed to staff the On-Site Registration desk, Thursday, May 16th, 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM and Saturday, May 18th, 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM.

Field Trips
Volunteers are needed on Thursday, May 16th from 6:00 AM to approximately 9:00 AM.  A few volunteers will pack lunches into coolers and the others will be outside holding signs, directions, and gathering all together for carpooling. 

Speaker Session Room Monitors and Workshop Monitors
Volunteers are needed for all conference speakers sessions and  workshops to help the speaker in any manner, for example, get AV technical support if needed (University Center provides the tech support), dim lights if necessary, give speaker heads up regarding time. 
 
Social Event Volunteers
Volunteers will take entry tickets for three separate social events.  This volunteer job will take place in the early part of the event.  The events are in the evenings of May 16, May 17 and May 18.  We will also need volunteers to sell bar drink tickets during the entire social event on Saturday, May 18th. To volunteer at a social event, you must be registered for that event. 
 
Native Plant Sale
Volunteers will work Friday, May 17th and Saturday, May 18th, between the hours of 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM and support the vendors at the Native Plant Sale. This volunteer job is outside.  Volunteers need to be knowledgeable about native plants.  Vendors may also need assistance with setting up and tearing down displays.
 
Plant ID Contest
One Volunteer is needed on Friday, May 17th to help set up and stay during the contest hours to monitor this activity.  The volunteer must be knowledgeable about native plants and invasive plants. This contest is Friday, May 17, 11:35 AM to 3:05 PM. 

Silent Auction
Volunteers will work Friday, May 17th and Saturday, May 18th, between the hours of 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM.  You will assist with any task in the silent auction room and also sell raffle drawing tickets for three items that will be raffled.  Volunteers are also needed for silent auction check out on Saturday, 4:05 PM to 6:00 PM.
