2011-2012 Portable Garden Grant Application

Arlington Community Garden is a non-profit organization that works to provide opportunities to learn environmental stewardship, increase awareness of healthier lifestyles, and promote a sense of community by creating and maintaining an organic community garden. Through its educational activities and community events, the garden serves as a catalyst for positive change in the Arlington community. In keeping with its education goals, Arlington Community Garden is offering four portable garden kits valued at over $200.

Who can apply? Any organization in the 32211 zip code who is working with pre-school to elementary age children 

What will you receive if selected? Your school garden kit will include:
  • An easy to assemble and transport (no tools required) 4' X 8' raised bed garden to use for the 2011-2012 school year
  • Organic soil
  • Seeds and/or seedlings
  • A school garden guidebook, and
  • Advice from a Garden Mentor, if requested
What do you need to do?
  • Plant an organic garden by the week of March 12, 2012
    • The garden must include food (herbs, vegetables, etc.)
  • Provide garden tools
  • Have administrative or supervisor support
  • Include plans on how you will engage the students and bring the garden into your curriculum/classroom
  • Use vegetables grown in the garden as a taste experience for your students
  • Provide feedback and a portfolio (website, photos, journal entries, etc) by June 30, 2012
